The MER is an inter-urban
style tramway which runs from Derby Castle at the north end of
Douglas to Ramsey. At Laxey it connects with the Snaefell
Mountain Railway.
This scene at Laxey shows MER trains on the left and centre, and a Snaefell car on the right. (May 29th 1979).
Car 20 (centre) is one of the winter saloons, built in 1899 by GFMilnes.
The Snaefell car was built in 1895.
MER 5 with crossbench
trailer arriving at Douglas.(May 29th 1979).
No.5 was built by GF Milnes in 1894 and is one of a batch of six cars (4-9). Nos.4 and 8 were destroyed in a depot fire at Laxey in 1930. All the others still exist.
Most summer services run as motor-trailer twin sets.
