Isle of Man Tramways |
![]() |
One of the lesser known
tramways of the Isle of Man, is the Upper Douglas cable tramway.
From 1896 to 1929 this ran in a semi-circular route through Upper
Douglas, connecting with the promenade at each end.
Cars 72 and 73 were sold off after closure and converted into a bungalow near Jurby. In 1968 they were dismantled, and the best parts from each car combined to form one new car. Since it is neither72 or 73, it carries the number 72 at one end and 73 at the other! Restoration was completed in 1976.
72/73 is kept in the horse tram depot and makes occasional outings along the horse tramway. Initially a Land Rover was used to propel it, but recently it has accquired its own electric motors powered by batteries.
